John "Jack" Varian, Jr., 81, of Byram Township, NJ passed away, peacefully, on Friday August 24th at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton.
Born in 1936 in Perth Amboy, NJ, Jack has resided in Byram Township since 1962. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps and he earned a bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University. He was a longtime coach for various Byram Sports organizations and a long time member of Cranberry Lake.
Jack was very active in the CLCC community. He was one of the "3 Amigos" for Club ground maintenance, along with Frank Kruse and Ian Crumlish. Back when Sunday mass was held in the Club, Jack set up the Club every Sunday and picked up the priest. For those that remember the Pink Elephant, Jack could be found behind the bar bartending.
Jack, along with others that heated their houses with wood, was always looking for firewood and would cut down and take up downed trees throughout the community.
