May 13th 2025
On May 12, 2025, the long-awaited engineering inspection and study of the Cranberry Lake Footbridge was conducted by Michael Baker International, a nationally recognized engineering firm. The purpose of this inspection was to assess the current condition of the bridge and evaluate the extent of the structural damage.
The data collected during the inspection will now undergo detailed analysis. Based on the findings, a determination will be made regarding the next steps. Our hope is that the bridge can be restored; however, several critical factors will influence this outcome. For example, if the cost to rehabilitate the structure exceeds the cost of a full replacement, restoration may not be pursued.
Both the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) will thoroughly review the inspection results before making a final decision. Save Our Bridge remains actively engaged with these agencies and will continue to advocate for the best possible outcome for our community.
How You Can Help:
If you live in the Cranberry Lake community /Byram Township area, we urge you to contact your state legislators, as well as your Senator and Congressional representatives. Request their support for the rehabilitation of the Cranberry Lake Footbridge.
Additionally, many who enjoy Cranberry Lake as a vacation destination reside in other New Jersey legislative districts. If that applies to you in addition to the above please contact your own elected officials and express your support for preserving this historic structure.
Now is the time to act.
This is the moment we’ve been working toward since the bridge was closed on June 5, 2019. Your voice matters and can make a difference in the final decision.
Thank you for your continued support.
